Wire Form
Wire Form Springs
Wire forms come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes which, using our highly sophisticated machines, we are able to produce in small or large quantities. We supply two-dimensional wire forms, three-dimensional wire forms, simple wire forms and complex wire forms.
Due to our many years of experience, we have a vast knowledge of material grades and properties for wire forms which enables us to advise our customers on their applications and performance under certain stresses and conditions.
There is virtually no design of wire forms that we cannot manufacture and our CNC machines are designed to hold the very tightest of tolerances whilst still maintaining fast set-up times and high production speeds. Our wire forms are utilised across all industries, in particular, we supply the aerospace, electrical, transportation and white goods sectors.
Torsion
Torsion springs differ from both compression and extension springs in both applications of load and method of operation. They are coil springs that exert a torque (or resist a torque) in an arc with the legs rotating around the axis and the body coils being stressed in bending. An infinite number of variations are possible for leg formation but simplicity is often the best guide.

Pressings
Pressings are springs that are manufactured from sheets or strips. They may be flat, have bends, radii, have holes or cut out shapes or a combination of all of the above and can be made from a wide range of materials and are often made from pre-hardened material although sometimes it is necessary to manufacture from annealed material and apply a post-forming harden and temper operation. Most pressings are loaded in bending with the cantilever spring being the most simple.
About Wireform Springs
Wireform springs are integral components across various industrial sectors, playing a fundamental role in enhancing functionality and reliability. At The Active Spring Company, we recognise the significance of wireform springs and excel in their production.
Wireform springs are designed for diverse applications, including securing components, providing tension, guiding parts, and more. They are characterised by their versatility, as they can be customised to fulfill specific functions, making them indispensable in industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, and consumer goods.
Just as torsion springs specialise in rotational energy, wireform springs stand out for their adaptability in shape and configuration. They are fashioned from a single piece of wire, which can be bent into various forms to suit the precise requirements of an application. Whether it’s a retaining clip, wire guide, or other functions, wireform springs are tailored to the job at hand.
The material used for wireform springs varies depending on the application’s needs. Common choices include stainless steel, carbon steel, music wire, and various alloys. The material selection is crucial for factors like corrosion resistance and load-bearing capacity, ensuring optimal performance.
Determining the right wire diameter and shape for a wireform spring depends on several factors, such as the application’s load, deflection requirements, and spatial constraints. Our experienced team at The Active Spring Company can guide you in selecting the appropriate specifications for your specific needs.
Safety is paramount when working with wireform springs. Proper installation, regular maintenance, and careful handling are essential to prevent accidents or spring failure. Always adhere to manufacturer guidelines and industry safety standards.
In the event of damage or wear, wireform springs are typically replaced rather than repaired. Attempting to repair them can be challenging and may not restore their original performance. Consult with professionals for replacement and maintenance to ensure continued reliability.
Wireform springs are widely utilised across various industries, offering versatility and adaptability. From latches and clips in automotive manufacturing to wire guides in electronics, wireform springs contribute to the efficient functioning of numerous products and systems.
For high-quality wireform springs tailored to your specific requirements, The Active Spring Company is a trusted name in the UK and beyond. We are dedicated to precision manufacturing, ensuring that the wireform springs we produce are reliable, durable, and meet the highest standards for performance and safety.
