History

The Active Spring Company Ltd was started by our Managing Directors' father, Harry Crane, in 1980.

The fledgling company had little in the way of machinery or equipment and was in fact set up in a small cart shed at the family home, subsequently moving to a business unit situated in the heart of Thaxted.

At this time the company employed a total of eleven staff which has steadily grown to thirty five, making us one of the largest employers in the area.

Under the stewardship of our Directors, who took over in 1999, the company rapidly grew and with the increased demand for expansion they invested in a privately owned four acre site at Sibley's Green with purpose built premises, to which the company relocated in 2001.

Over the intervening years the company has had year on year growth outgrowing its' premises, so in March 2011 the company expanded further into an additional 5,000 square feet building on the same site.

In addition, the range of machinery has increased from a half dozen hand coiling machines to what is now a very impressive wide range of Wafios automatic wire coiling machines, as well as wire bending and flat strip forming machines, making the total investment over the past seven years in the region of three million pounds.

As for the future, there are currently exciting plans in the pipeline for further growth and expansion.
